El Tovar Hotel - Grand Canyon National Park

Perched just steps from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, the El Tovar Hotel offers guests an unparalleled blend of rustic charm and refined elegance. Since opening its doors in 1905, El Tovar has stood as a testament to early 20th-century luxury, providing a serene retreat amidst one of nature's most awe-inspiring landscapes.

El Tovar Hotel 's Storied Past
Commissioned by the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway and operated by the Fred Harvey Company, El Tovar was designed by architect Charles Whittlesey. The hotel showcases a unique architectural style that combines elements of Swiss chalet and Norwegian villa, constructed with native stone and Oregon pine to harmonize with its surroundings. Named after Spanish explorer Pedro de Tovar, the hotel was envisioned as a destination resort, offering upscale accommodations in the heart of the wilderness.

Over the years, El Tovar has hosted numerous notable guests, including President Theodore Roosevelt and Albert Einstein, cementing its status as a historic landmark. In recognition of its cultural significance, the hotel was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.
